Come Sing With Us!
The Binghamton Downtown Singers invite you to come sing with us. We fully embrace a spirit of inclusion and diversity, accepting all who love to sing, no audition is required. We only ask that you consistently attend rehearsals so you will be prepared along with the rest of the choir to share our love of music with the community. Who knows, you may make a friend or two along the way.
We perform two major concerts a year. In December, we present our annual performance of Handel's oratorio, The Messiah, backed by a professional orchestra and soloists. This annual holiday performance has been a tradition in the Binghamton region for decades. Rehearsals for Messiah traditionally begin mid-September with the concert being held the weekend before Christmas. In the Spring, we present various choral works at the discretion of our Artistic Director. This is our opportunity to grow musically, often with new pieces but sometimes also with old favorites. Please see our
Past Performances to get a feel for our Spring repertoire. Rehearsals for our spring concert begin in January with the concert the first weekend of June.
Singer Responsibilities
Regular rehearsals are held on Sunday evenings from 7:00 - 9:15 with a break around 8:15. We will also have week night rehearsals as needed, or if a regular rehearsal is canceled. Please be early with scores and a pencil and come prepared to give your best effort.
To defray the cost of our performances, we ask each member to make a $25 donation per performance, and our music scores are provided at cost. As we are a 501 (c)(3) certified non-profit organization, your donation is tax deductible. We also rely on our membership to promote our concerts, sell tickets and help secure advertisements for our concert programs.
